Based on the true story of a father and son who repair their fractured relationship during a forced hike of the Appalachian trail to find their beloved lost dog.
Catherine and Blake just tied the knot. Samuel and Catherine have a long and intimate history which is significant to the fact that Samuel and Blake are best friends. When Samuel decides not to attend their wedding under some pretense that no one believes, he invites the newlyweds to Nadi Vineyards for a week-long party in paradise to make up for his absence. Records spin, wine flows, and bottles pile up. What unfolds over the course of this week will rearrange the geometry of Samuel, Catherine, and Blake’s relationships and test the boundaries of their complicated, revolving love for one another.

Directors Christine Molloy and Joe Lawlor, also known as Desperate Optimists, have spent years making formally rigorous, atmospheric cinema that often deals with the uncanny effects of impersonation and the slippery nature of truth. With Rose Plays Julie (2019) hey have crafted a slow-burn thriller that builds a sense of dread inside an exquisite world of immaculate architecture, rendered through an icy performance style and enveloped by a claustrophobic soundtrack. Ann Skelly and Orla Brady are both exacting and measured in their delivery, as the film takes us through longing and revenge to arrive at the dark places of power and its abuses. This is frank, immersive and decidedly feminist filmmaking.

After losing his wife to cancer, Dave Bryant also lost his faith in God. In an effort to lift his spirits, Dave’s old church buddies convince him to participate in the hunting show they’ve always wanted to make together. The group heads to a remote cabin and begins documenting their experiences. Before long, Dave senses a dark presence in the woods he’s convinced is stalking him. But the other guys have no idea what he’s talking about, and Dave begins to wonder if it’s all in his head. The presence continues closing in, eventually bringing Dave face to face with death – and his faith.
