A nation of more than 100 million people on a collection of over 7,600 islands all set in the warm emerald seas of the Pacific Ocean, the Philippines is a land of sparkling wonder. With more than 20 active volcanoes, lush forests and miles of coral reefs, the Philippines is a land of contrasts. It has some of the most extraordinary diversity found in any country, the shallow seas are the most bio-diverse anywhere on the planet while many of the islands boast their own distinctly unique species.
In this short series, we visit some of the Philippines’ most compelling wildlife locations to uncover the wild side of these amazing islands. We’ll also examine the relationship between human and animals and reveal how the people of the Philippines are working to preserve their precious wildlife.
Season 1, Episode 1 – “Wild Paradise”
We start at the tiny island of Bataan, where a unique viper and a giant and ubiquitous land crab live. Luzon is the largest island in the Philippines. We travel to Mindoro to see the largest threatened mammal in the Philippines, tamarao.
Season 1, Episode 2 – ” Enchanted Islands”
We leave the turtles off the coast of Palawan to visit the magnificent National Marine Park of Tubbataha, where we will see whale sharks and stingrays. At Bohol we explore the Chocolate Hills and meet a man who has done more than any other to protect the Filipino tarsier, a small primate with bulging eyes.

Thank you very much for this Max. Having lived in the Islands for several years and visiting there many times, I’ve come to know and value many dear friends there. Such an unbelievably beautiful country and some of the most wonderful people in the world. I will greatly miss never to return due to my age. But I will never forget any of my many friends, adventures or the unforgettable beauty of such a glorious island nation. Memories that all the money and riches in the world could never begin to compensate me for…! Smile.
