‘Underground’ follows a group of slaves who plan a daring escape from a Georgia plantation to cross 600 miles to freedom. They are aided along the way by a secret abolitionist couple running a station on the Underground Railroad, as they evade those tasked with bringing them back—dead or alive.

The runners find themselves thwarted at every turn while making a mad dash to catch a train heading north; the Macon slaves are questioned about their plans.

The road takes its toll on August. The runners are trapped in a floating coffin. Ernestine struggles to maintain her influence.

Children lose their innocence when forced to face the harsh realities of the world.

As death closes in, the runners have no choice but to hide in plain sight; Ernestine faces her worst fear.
