Season 01, Episode 01 –“A World Without God”
Period crime drama set in London in 1827. When the police arrest a gang of opium smugglers on the banks of the Thames, Inspector John Marlott makes a shocking discovery in the form of the body of a dead child washed up on the shore. He is ordered by Home Secretary Sir Robert Peel to lead the investigation, however details must remain confidential. Starring Sean Bean.
Season 01, Episode 02 –“Seeing Things”
After his discovery on the banks of the Thames, Inspector Marlott visits the house of artist and printmaker William Blake, who is on his deathbed. Later, Marlott confers with Nightingale, a local policeman who has been keeping watch on The Fortune of War, a public house where body snatchers are known to gather. The pair create a plan to capture a person of interest who may be able to aid them with their investigation.
Season 01, Episode 03 –“All the Lost Children”
After escaping from Billy Oates, Flora throws herself on Inspector Marlott’s mercy and, believing her to be a key witness in Alice’s disappearance, he takes her to his lodgings for safety. Meanwhile, the investigation continues and Marlott goes to Kentish Town to interrogate author Mary Shelley. The connection between her fictional monster and the child corpse cannot be a mere coincidence.
Season 01, Episode 04 –“The Fortunes of War”
Marlott takes a terrified Pritty on their assignation to meet the men who kill for money. They find themselves in the tunnels under Smithfield market, which run from the Fortunes of War pub to St Bart’s Hospital. Meanwhile, Flora has returned to Marlott’s lodgings, but Marlott intends to use her as bait for the murderous gang, much against the wishes of Nightingale.
Season 01, Episode 05 –“The Frankenstein Murders”
Boz publishes a newspaper article about the murders which causes a public outcry and infuriates Peel on the eve of the Anatomy Act. Mary Shelley, the author of Frankenstein, follows her own line of enquiry into the medical practice of Sir William Chester, uncovering secrets from the past. Marlott decides to go back to Greenwich where it all began – is there something he is missing?
Season 01, Episode 06 –“Lost and Found”
Marlott finally pieces together the movement of bodies at St Bart’s Hospital, and a number of suspects continue to plague his mind. As Marlott continues the investigation, Sir Robert Peel meets Sir William Chester at the hospital. Sensing that he is getting dangerously close to solving the mystery, Marlott seeks authorisation for a pistol.
